Members Art Share: 2022 Year-End
For this month’s Members Art Share, we asked our members to look back over the year, pick their favorite piece that they made in 2022, and tell us a little more about it. Read on to see what people chose as their highlight project of 2022!
CATTRIGGER
Melissa❤️, a horror-romance visual novel (available for free on itch.io!)
From CatTrigger: “Melissa❤️ was done on the anniversary of a full year of experimentation in game development. I had quickly grown to fall in love with the medium in telling stories, and Melissa❤️ was a combination of all the things in the process that I love in it.”
Quinn Stephens
From Quinn: “I like this one because I took a lot of extra time on it to use photo reference for the face and to really establish fine details, which I’m usually too lazy to do. I think it both captured the image in my head but also surprised me a bit with the colors and mood of the final piece. I also got a fun animated loop out of it as well (I have it as one of my zoom backgrounds) — https://youtu.be/FyUhRnBO9t8”
HARD DECORA
From Hard Decora: “It’s my favorite because I took pose reference from one of my favorite pro wrestlers Rhea Ripley and I got the lighting so right :D”
Graham Henderson
Aquadogs Stadium Racing - a completed Webtoon!
From Graham: “Aquadogs Stadium Racing is a story I wrote and illustrated this year. It's about dogs who race around on shark motorcycles (specifically Pip, a racer who wants to be #2 so she can get the attention of her idol, Alfi Piero). I learned a lot about keeping up with a schedule and creating for the endless scroll. Right now I'm learning a lot about reformatting from endless scroll to print. Wish me luck!”
PAUL WARNER
Mya’s Big Bird Adventure, a comedic visual novels with birds, adventure, and scary eyeballs (available for free on itch.io!)
From Paul: “I learned that timed events like game jams can give me the necessary motivation/pressure/direction to start and finish creative projects. The time limit made it a good exercise in not being a perfectionist when drawing stuff and forced me to find ways to make it easier, which ended up making it more fun (like using a programming-free game engine). Having a jam topic to work with (‘birds’) also helped it be less open-ended and daunting to come up with ideas.”
zoe
Crocus Field. A Stardew Valley inspired visual novel.
From Zoe: The favorite thing I've worked on this year is Crocus Field. I love working on it because it brings together a lot of different disciplines, such as writing, illustrating, portraiture, narrative design, and coding. It also lets me get closer to friends whom I work on the project with!
KAT TUESDAY
From Kat: “I wanted to say that my favorite thing I worked on this year was chapter 4 of More Things in Heaven and Earth, because that’s my main project and there was a tricky sequence in the middle that I solved after 11 different drafts… but that would be a lie. ‘Patience’ was definitely my favorite! The goofy tone, ensemble cast, and large size all made it tons of fun to work on.”
