Zinefest 2020 is going digital and Let’s Make Comics is going rogue
Faced with the sad reality that we won’t be joining hundreds of cool zinesters in the Plumber’s Union Hall this weekend to watch strangers slink guiltily away from our table, we’ve come up with an alternative plan that still allows us to put our reluctant hearts on display.
That’s right, we’re having our very own…
ZINEFEST DIGITAL EVENT WITH LIVE PANELS!
Join us on our Discord server from noon to 4pm on Saturday, May 16th, as we discuss topics of interest to us that will no doubt immediately become topics of great interest to you as well.
Here’s the lineup:
12pm: Comics and translation – Kat talks about the history of manga translation in North America.
1pm: Comics and semantics – A panel of LMC members discuss the overlap between minicomics, zines, and doujinshi.
2pm: Comics and therapy – Zoe talks about how comics can be used in narrative (art) therapy.
3pm: Comics and collaborative games – We all attempt to make a lighting round robin/exquisite corpse comic. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate.
FINALE: 2020 anthology theme revealed - You may have heard that LMC members make an anthology every year. It’s time to find out what this year’s theme will be! We promise that the theme will not be “quarantine,” “illness,” “isolation,” “anxiety about the present and the future,” or “crushing ennui.” Any active member can submit a story for publication in the anthology, so if you want to get in on this sweet minicomics action, there’s no better time to join our community.
I know what you’re thinking: I’M SO IN. GIVE ME THE LINK ALREADY. You betcha! You can catch this event by joining our Discord server.
Or if you hate commitment and just want to skate by and then slink guiltily away (we love you), you can watch us streaming on Twitch instead.
Hope to see you there!
